Trailhead
From the 118 freeway in Simi Valley, exit on Sycamore and head south. At Los Angeles Avenue turn left. After two or so stoplights, turn right on Sequoia Avenue and follow it until the road dead ends at a green gate. You will need to park on one of the nearby side streets as there is no parking on Sequoia. Hop over the green gate and you are on your way.
Description
This pleasant hike follows sections of the old Runkle Ranch road and an Edison access road into the lovely foothills south of Simi Valley. The hike starts out on a paved road, with rolling hills and grazing cattle. After a half mile or so the pavement ends and the balance of the hike is on a fire road. About a mile into the hike, the road begins a steady assent to a spectacular oak studded plateau at the hikes turn around point, an obvious T in the road. Although I have never done it, you can go right at the T and follow it another 5 miles to China Flat. As you head back the way you came, the views of Simi Valley and the Santa Susana mountains are simply breathtaking.
Note that although local residents have been hiking this trail for years, it is on private property. Please stay on the fire road and don't bother any of the grazing cattle. Hopefully the owners will allow us to continue to enjoy this wonderful hike.
